Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is one of the most followed teams in the IPL and the fans are waiting for a word on their retentions. The Bengaluru-based franchise has been part of IPL since its inception but has yet to win the title. Despite their below-par run, RCB have a huge fan base and the fans are waiting to get a word on their retentions.
The Times of India has reported that retaining Virat Kohli will be a no-brainer for RCB while that isn't the case with other retentions. RCB are likely to release Cameron Green, who joined the franchise in an all-cash deal from Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.50 crore.
Green is down with a back injury and is set to sit out of the game for the next six months. The star all-rounder will miss the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The franchise might not retain Glenn Maxwell or Faf du Plessis either. du Plessis captained RCB to the playoffs of IPL 2022 and 2024. They failed to make it to the final.
Will Virat Kohli be RCB's only retention?
Virat Kohli could very well be RCB's only retention before the mega-auction. In 2011 too, RCB only retained Virat before the mega-auction while they released the likes of Rahul Dravid, Robin Uthappa and many others.
Virat joined RCB in the IPL 2008 pre-season draft. He was retained before the IPL 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2022 mega-auctions. In 2018, Virat created history with a salary of Rs 17 crore.
He took over as RCB's captain in IPL 2013 and captained them till 2021. Virat-led RCB struggled in the T20 league and only played one IPL final - in 2016. Virat stepped down as the captain after IPL 2021. He remained part of the leadership group and led RCB in matches that du Plessis missed.
