Time is running out as all the IPL franchises have been busy figuring out their retention list. The deadline for declaring the IPL retention list is nearing and the anticipation is building up gradually. All the focus will be on Lucknow Super Giants as KL Rahul’s future has been the subject of interest. The LSG captain led his team to a disappointing seventh place finish in IPL 2024. As per an Indian Express report, LSG are yet to take a call on KL Rahul’s future.
LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was caught by TV cameras as he was involved in an animated conversation with skipper KL Rahul after the 10 wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad. That initiated speculation about Rahul’s LSG future and it seems the management hasn’t decided whether to keep the former RCB player or to release him.
As per the report, Nicholas Pooran is all set to be retained by LSG while the franchise has also decided to keep hold of their two uncapped players, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan. LSG appointed former Indian pacer Zaheer Khan as their mentor and it remains to be seen how he handles things in the franchise.
Goenka had earlier hinted that they are unlikely to release Rahul as he is like a family. “He (Rahul) is integral (to LSG). He has been here since the inception. For me personally and for (my son) Shashwat, he is like family.”
BCCI already announced the rules and regulations for IPL retentions. Team will have to shell out a whopping 18 crore for the first retention, followed by 14 and 11 crores for the second and third retentions respectively. The last two retentions will cost 18 and 14 crore respectively.
