The second leg of the Ranji Trophy has begun on January 23, 2025, and one of the big matches in this round of the premier Indian domestic tournament is the clash between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir. This will also be the first match since BCCI issued a diktat wherein they instructed players to take part in the Ranji Trophy to be considered for India selection. Hence, big players who are regulars of Team India are playing this round of the Ranji Trophy. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two big names in the Mumbai squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma opened the batting for Mumbai against Jammu & Kashmir. They have created history by becoming the first active Indian Test opening pair to open the batting for the same Ranji Trophy team.

A lot was expected of the duo to perform well. However, both of them departed for single digit scores. While Jaiswal scored only five runs, ROhit Sharma got out after struggling for an 18-ball 3-run innings.

Rohit Sharma has now become the first captain f India after 17 years to feature in a Ranji Trophy match. The last captain to do so was Anil Kumble back in 2008, when he took the field for Maharashtra. This was Rohit's return to domestic cricket for the first time in 7 years.

However, Rohit Sharma is not leading the Mumbai side despite being the India captain. The captaincy duties are being held by veteran batter and former vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane.
