The preparations for the IPL 2025 mega-auction are in full swing and the franchises are busy deciding on the players they want to retain and release. Multiple reports have surfaced regarding different franchises. As the fans wait for an official word from the teams, the Indian Express has provided a huge update on Punjab Kings (PBKS).
The Indian Express has reported that PBKS are in talks with Arshdeep Singh and they want to retain him. Arshdeep has been with PBKS since 2019. The Punjab-based franchise retained him before the IPL 2022 mega-auction for Rs 4 crore.
Arshdeep made his India debut in a T20I against England in 2022 and has been a regular in the shortest format since then. Arshdeep was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team. Arshdeep, if retained, could earn a sum of Rs 18 crore or 14 crore. The left-arm pacer has scalped 76 wickets in 65 IPL matches.
Apart from Arshdeep, PBKS also want to retain Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma. Both uncapped batsmen had a season to remember for PBKS in 2024. PBKS can retain them for Rs 4 crore each.
Shashank slammed 354 runs, batting with a strike rate of 164.65. Ashutosh batted with a strike rate of 167.26 for his 189 runs. A team can retain a maximum of two uncapped players.
Rohit Sharma to stay with Mumbai Indians
The report adds that Rohit Sharma will stay with Mumbai Indians (MI). The former MI captain was removed from captaincy and replaced by Hardik Pandya before IPL 2024. Rohit was expected to leave the franchise. But he might decide to stay with MI.
MI made a big change in their coaching set-up and dropped Mark Boucher as the head coach. Mahela Jayawardene has made his return and will lead the coaching staff. The duo of Rohit and Jayawardene won three IPL titles.
