Rohit Sharma decided to bat first as the second Test finally resumed on day Two at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The hosts haven’t had an easy start as they have lost three wickets to start the proceedings.
The first day was washed out due to persistent rain and India registered an unwanted record amid all the uncertainty. For the first time in more than 11 years, an entire day of a Test match in India was washed out without a ball being bowled.
The last time this instance happened was way back in 2013 in Mohali when rain interrupted the entire day and both the hosts and Australia had to sit out on the sidelines. For New Zealand, it is now 18 successive Test sessions in which they have been failed to set the ball rolling.
The visitors arrived in India on the back of a disappointing Sri Lanka tour. They lost both Test matches against the island nation and will look to restore some of their lost glory on Indian soil.
Coming to the match, the hosts are in deep trouble having lost Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan very early. New Zealand pacers have capitalised on the overcast condition after Rohit Sharma decided to bat first in Bengaluru.
The home side is riding high as they thrashed Bangladesh 2-0 in Test further solidifying their dominance in the long format. India currently top the World Test Championship table and are looking favourites for that coveted spot in the WTC final.
