Will Rohit Sharma take part in Ranji Trophy? Photo: AP
The Ranji Trophy season will resume on January 23 and many capped players are expected to turn up for their respective state teams. All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the fans are waiting to get an update on them. Delhi and Mumbai will be in action in their respective matches when the red-ball season resumes.
The PTI recently reported that the BCCI has directed stars to turn up for domestic matches. The board has said that those who are committed to play international cricket should must play Ranji Trophy.
Despite this, Virat and Rohit are unlikely to play in the domestic tournament. So will the BCCI take an action and drop them from the central contract list? The board dropped Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the central contract list after they missed the last league stage match of Ranji Trophy in 2024.
Iyer made his return for the Sri Lanka ODI series while Ishan didn't play for Team India in 2024. Will the BCCI also punish Virat and Rohit?
Hindustan Times has reported that it's unlikely that the BCCI will do this to the star duo. Both Virat and Rohit have A+ contracts. Rohit is the present Test and ODI captain. He captained India to a title win in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Virat is the former all-format captain of Team India.
When did Virat and Rohit last play Ranji Trophy?
Virat Kohli played his previous Ranji Trophy game against Uttar Pradesh in November 2012. He hasn't played a domestic game since 2013. Rohit Sharma played his previous Ranji Trophy game in 2015. His previous domestic cricket appearance came in 2018. KL Rahul has opted to take a rest and he isn't playing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. He isn't part of the T20I team.
