Former India cricketer Kapil Dev has said that the selectors would have thought about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's future and he is no one to comment on it, but the two star players would know when they need to stop playing. Speaking at an event hosted by the Professional Golf Tour of India, where he serves as the president, Kapil Dev added that Rohit should be given the space and time to determine when it is right to step away from international cricket.
Recent struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under have sparked immense criticism of both Rohit and Kohli. But Kapil Dev has said that the duo need not be pressurised and will know when to hang up their boots.
Rohit managed just 31 runs in the first three Tests before making the unexpected decision to step down from the series finale to focus on addressing his form problems.
"How can I comment on the judgement of others? I think the selectors would have thought about it. So, if I say something it would be criticising them. I don't want to criticise them. They are a group of people who must have planned and thought about that," Kapil Dev said.
"They are very big players. Let's hope when they think it's the right time to play when they think it's not, they will call it off," Kapil Dev added.
Speculation is swirling that Rohit will not be selected for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Kohli's future is under the scanner as well although it is believed that he is in a better position as of now, thanks to the century in Perth and his overall record in Tests.
While Rohit managed just 31 runs in Australia, prompting him to drop himself from the fifth and final Test, Kohli managed a century in the opening match in Perth.
