Australia have been dealt a major blow as Cameron Green has been ruled out from the upcoming Test series against Australia. Green decided to have surgery after a sixth stress fracture has been diagnosed.
Ahead of the India series, Green’s absence could prove to be vital for the Aussies. A five match Test series could define India’s World Test Championship future as Rohit Sharma’s men are currently leading the WTC points table.
Australia seem to have found an unlikely replacement in Mitchell Marsh as the allrounder is likely to be handed a new role. The Australian management is unlikely to replace Green with another all rounder and is likely to name another opener to accommodate Steve Smith at the number four position.
Marsh who hasn’t bowled much due to a number of niggles and injuries is all set to be given extra responsibilities and the Delhi Capitals star insisted he will start building his bowling capability from the Sheffield Shield matches.
As quoted by ESPN Cricinfo he said, "I won't bowl too much for WA, it's all part of the building process to get ready for that first Test,.
"It's been a slow build. I've been really well looked after by Cricket Australia, Ronnie [Australia coach Andrew McDonald] and Patty [Pat Cummins], with our planning and when I bowl.
"I love bowling, so I'm looking forward to bowling for Western Australia this week and build from there."
Once you're in the field of battle, you bowl as many overs as the captain needs you to bowl."
"I see the allrounder role as being really important, especially for when our bowlers need a bit of a break. I think if you look back at the last few seasons, our allrounders have bowled maybe 10 to 13 overs a game, which is not really a lot.
"But those 10 to 13 overs can be really important. So for me, it's about preparing to bowl as much as I can, as much as Patty needs me to."
