In what has come as a major injury concern for India, opener KL Rahul was on Saturday, December 21 attended to by the team physio after getting hit on his hand during the nets session at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Rahul has been one of the best performers among a bunch of inconsistent shows in the Indian team and any injury to him could turn out to be a big blow.
Rahul was hit on his right hand and was seen in some discomfort at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will host the Boxing Day Test from December 26 with the five-match series levelled at 1-1.
There is still some confusion over the extent of the injury and the Indian team management hasn't issued any statement on why Rahul had looked for medical attention. A video has gone viral on social media where he is seen being treated by the physio. Watch the video here:
Rahul has been the Indian team's in-form batter in the ongoing tour, scoring 235 runs from six innings at an average of 47. He has till now hit two fifties and is all set to open the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the fourth Test in Melbourne.
Rahul is the second-highest scorer in the high-profile series behind Australia batter Travis Head, who has already smacked two centuries. Battling through multiple rain interruptions, he held firm with a crucial innings of 84 in India's first innings of the third Test in Adelaide.
Rahul ended up being integral to India's historic victory over Australia in the first Test of the series in Perth, so much so that India skipper Rohit Sharma ended up going back to the middle order for the first time in the last five years to keep Rahul at the top.
The India opener's debut Down Under was in Melbourne a decade back but he had registered two single-digit scores. Rahul, if fit, will be looking to reverse that record this time around.
