'Mate You Don't Need To Do That': When Michael Hussey Gave A Sledging Lesson To Jasprit Bumrah (Photo credit: Twitter @BCCI)
Former Australia cricketer Michael Hussey has narrated an incident where he had to calm down Jasprit Bumrah who had just given a send-off to AB de Villiers during an IPL match. Bumrah, who has grown leaps and bounds since then, is now India's leading pacer across formats and has almost single-handedly kept India alive in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Bumrah has managed to capture the imagination of the Aussie media and cricket experts. Hussey has now recalled interacting with the ace India pacer during their time together at the Mumbai Indians.
In this particular IPL 2014 match, Bumrah dismissed de Villiers and after the wicket, gave a fiery send-off to the latter, gesturing towards the pavilion.
“He burst onto the scene in the IPL. I remember having one stern word with him, though. In one of his early games, he got AB de Villiers out, obviously a great of the game and gave him a big send-off and AB wasn’t too happy about it. He sort of stared him down and I remember just pulling Bumrah aside and saying, ‘mate, you don’t need to do that," Hussey said while speaking on The Willow Talk Podcast.
"You have got that much skill that much talent, getting the wicket is enough. That’s the biggest sledge you can give, you don’t need to give send-offs if you want to have respect in the game and get respected by your peers then maybe just don’t give send-offs," Hussey added.
Bumrah has been on a roll ever since he came back from a year-long absence because of an injury. He helped India win the T20 World Cup in June, finishing as the Player of the Tournament and is now playing a multi-faceted role in the ongoing series Down Under. Besides being the highest wicket-taker till now, he also played a crucial role in helping India avoid follow-on in the Brisbane Test.
