India and Pakistan are set to renew their heated rivalry and the two teams will lock horns in the league stage game of the 2025 Champions Trophy on February 23. Pakistan are scheduled to host the ICC event next year but India won't travel there. They will play their matches at a neutral venue, which means that Pakistan and other teams which are scheduled to face India will travel to that country.
Should India qualify for the second round, they will play their semi-final and the final at the neutral venue only. It also means that Pakistan are not confirmed to host the final of the 2025 Champions Trophy.
India, who won the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni's leadership, will open their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20. They will face New Zealand in their last league game on March 2.
The two semi-finals are scheduled to be played on March 4 and 5 while the final will take place on March 9. There is a reserve day in place for the final.
Pakistan are defending champions
Pakistan will enter the 2025 Champions Trophy as defending champions. They defeated Virat Kohli-led India in a one-sided final in 2017 to win the title. India entered the tournament as the defending champions. ICC scrapped the tournament after 2017 but brought it back for the 2025 season.
Rohit Sharma to lead India
Rohit Sharma is confirmed to lead India in the Champions Trophy. Few days after Rohit captained India to their second T20 World Cup title win, the BCCI confirmed that he would lead the team in the next ICC event.
"After the T20 World Cup win, the next target is to win the WTC final and the Champions Trophy. I have full confidence that under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, we will be champions in both the tournaments," former BCCI secretary Jay Shah said. He took over as ICC's Chairman on December 1.
