Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan was on Thursday seen getting engaged in a verbal spat with South Africa wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen, during the second ODI between the two sides in Cape Town. Under Rizwan's captaincy, Pakistan showed brilliant skills to stun South Africa with an emphatic 81-run win in the second ODI to bag the three-match series.
Apart from some brilliant cricket played by both Pakistan and South Africa, the highlight of the match was the verbal spat between Rizwan and Klaasen.
The incident occurred during the 26th over of South Africa's innings when the game was hanging in the balance, with the hosts still requiring a whopping 191 runs to win the game. Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf bowled a short-pitched delivery to end the over and Klaasen just let it pass to Rizwan.
Rauf's bouncer agitated the Protea wicketkeeper, as he had a fiery altercation with the former. Watch the video here:
The fight escalated, with both Klaasen and Rizwan continuing the spat. The on-field umpire and former Pakistan captain Babar Azam had to then intervene and stop the fight. The spat was slowly toned down and the match went on from there.
Pakistan won a second straight major ODI series away from home when it thrashed South Africa by 81 runs at Newlands on Thursday.
After defeating Australia 2-1 in November, Pakistan have taken the Proteas 2-0 with a match to spare. The fifties by Babar, Rizwan and allrounder Kamran Ghulam staked Pakistan to 329.
Klaasen smacked 97 but South Africa’s chase was strangled by Pakistan and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi ended the last meaningful resistance with three wickets in three overs. Klaasen was the last man out on 248 in the 44th over.
Pakistan’s fifth consecutive bilateral ODI series victory puts them in good stead for the Champions Trophy it will host two months later.
