'His Fitness, Discipline And Attitude Are Poor': MCA Official Drops Bombshell On Prithvi Shaw (Source: BCCI/IPL)
From being touted as the next Sachin Tendulkar to failing to find a place in the Mumbai squad, Prithvi Shaw's fall has been shocking, to say the least. Success doesn't come easy and it needs tremendous dedication, hard work, and discipline to sustain at the highest level. Unfortunately for Shaw, he didn't merit other requirements of being a sportsperson, including fitness, and was pegged back in the queue.
Shaw was upset at being left out of the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and vented out his frustration on social media by sharing his stats, however, his performance wasn't the only reason why he was left out of the squad. According to a Mumbai Cricket Association official, Shaw was left out due to poor fitness, indiscipline and attitude. Reportedly, Shaw used to leave the hotel at night and come at six in the morning, and missed several training sessions, leaving some of the seniors frustrated.
"In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, we were playing with 10 fielders as we were forced to hide Prithvi Shaw. The ball would pass near him and he would barely be able to get to it," the official said on conditions of anonymity to the PTI
"Even while batting, we could see he was troubled reaching to the ball. His fitness, discipline and attitude are poor and it is pretty simple, there cannot be different rules for different players," he claimed.
"Even the seniors in the team have started complaining about his attitude now," he added.
The official further added that Shaw's social media posts won't have any impact on the selectors. "You would be wrong to think such posts on social media would have any impact on the Mumbai selectors and the MCA," he added.
Earlier, Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer had lashed out at Shaw for indiscipline. "He needs to get his work ethics right. And if he does that, (the) sky's the limit for him," Iyer told reporters in Bengaluru.
"We can't babysit anyone, right? He has played so much of cricket. Everyone has given him inputs. At the end of the day, it's his job to figure out things for himself. And he has also done it in the past. It's not that he hasn't," he added.
