The Silver Ferns will be heading to Australia early next year for a nine-day training camp which includes a match against Grace Nweke's NSW Swifts.

Kiwi shooter Nweke recently completed a move to the Swifts in the off-season which makes her ineligible to play for the Silver Ferns.

Silver Ferns shooter Maia Wilson said it will be weird to face off against one of their own.

"I don't think we've ever been in this position where we play against someone that's been in our environment and in our culture, and they're in the opposition playing with Aussies of all people," Wilson told 1News.

"I think it will be exciting to see her (Nweke) in her new environment and seeing what that looks like for her, but also for us, there's no better competition than putting us up against the best."

The Silver Ferns will take a squad of 15 players to Sydney for the training camp which will run from January 27 to February 4.

They would usually be playing against England in the Nation's Cup but that tournament isn't going ahead next year.

An alternative trip to Fiji was also cancelled due to "unforeseen logistical challenges."

The match against the Swifts will be played on February 2 at Netball Central in Sydney Olympic Park.

Silver Ferns coach Dame Noeline Taurua emphasised the importance of the camp in preparing for the year ahead.

“This camp allows us to train and gain tour experience as a wider squad...our game against the Swifts will be a real challenge for both teams and a unique opportunity.

“The new squad members are exciting, and I can’t wait to see how they train, play, and work alongside our seasoned campaigners.”

World Rankings

The Silver Ferns have climbed up the netball world rankings following their Constellation Cup victory over Australia in October.

Australia stay world No. 1, however their rating has decreased by five points to 204.

England, who were previously 2nd, have fallen to fourth place in the rankings following their 2-1 series loss to Jamaica.

Jamaica move up to third place in the rankings.
