Prithvi Shaw's tumultuous form hasn't helped him much of late. He failed to justify his selection in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and has also been dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy Mumbai squad.
The 25 year old shot to fame with the ICC U19 World Cup as he led India to the title and emerged as one of the future superstars of Indian cricket. He even shone on his Test debut but his career took a nosedive for various reasons.
He even was compared with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar but failed to deliver on the promise as his form has been very underwhelming across all the formats. He was released by Delhi Capitals after IPL 2024 and went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
After getting dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Shaw put out an Instagram story, "Tell me God, what more do I have to see? If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126 (in Vijay Hazare), I'm not good enough. But I will keep my faith in you and, hopefully, people still believe in me, because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram."
Now the Mumbai Cricket Association came out explaining what kept Prithvi Shaw out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad.
An MCA official told the Hindustan Times, "The fitness concern is there, but the performance is also not there currently. He needs to work on his fitness, discipline and performance. The main issue is the fitness. You see the matches. You get the image, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for everyone to see.
"We hope he works on these issues and makes a strong comeback. We all know his talent. It is just about him putting in the hard yards.”
