Prithvi Shaw's comeback to the Mumbai cricket team was short-lived as he was dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad. Shaw made his return to the Mumbai squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was expected to retain his spot for the upcoming 50-over tournament. But there was no place for the talented batsman.
Shaw was quick to react to his snub and he questioned his absence from the team. Sharing his List A numbers on social media, Shaw wrote: "Tell me God, what more do l have to see.. if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I'm not good enough... but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still.. cause I will come back for sure.. OM SAI RAM."
Shaw's tally includes 10 hundreds and 14 half-centuries. He also has two double-hundreds in 50-over cricket. He has played six ODIs. Shaw's absence from the Mumbai team could end his season early as he was dropped from the Ranji Trophy team at the start of the season.
Prithvi Shaw flopped in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
Prithvi Shaw was recalled to the Mumbai cricket team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but he flopped. The opening batsman only managed to score 197 runs in 9 matches at an average of 21.88. Shreyas Iyer-led Mumbbai defeated Madhya Pradesh in a thrilling final to lift the trophy.
Shaw went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction and his absence from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad is another blow for him. Shaw can earn a recall to the team if the selectors make changes after the first three games.
Shreyas Iyer to lead Mumbai
Shreyas Iyer will continue to lead the Mumbai cricket team. Suryakumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Dube are the other three capped players in the team. Rahane is likely to make his return after the first 3 games. Mumbai will open their campaign against Karnataka on Saturday (December 21).
