India pacer Akash Deep on Tuesday smacked Australia skipper Pat Cummins for a massive six using the bat that Virat Kohli had gifted him, leaving the star India batter awestruck and immensely elated. The entire Gabba crowd was left in awe as the India pacer managed to hit Cummins for the six, showing his prowess as a big hitter of the ball.
Akash, India’s No. 10 batter, faced Cummins in a tense atmosphere. He and ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah had the massive responsibility of avoiding a follow-on in the third Test and once they managed to do so, Akash went all guns blazing.
Having avoided the follow-on with a boundary, Akash didn't do much for the next ball but another delivery later, thumped Cummins over deep midwicket and beat his chest in celebration. His heroics showed that India's tail could still eat into Australia's massive lead and put the match in a brilliant position going into the final day. Watch the video here:
India avoided the follow-on, scoring 252/9 when bad light forced stumps on day 4 of the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja (77) and KL Rahul (84) led India's fightback, but once they were dismissed, Bumrah (10) and Akash (27) helped push the total forward, with a heroic last-wicket partnership of 39 off 54 deliveries.
India, however, still trail by 193 runs and it will be on Bumrah and Akash to eat into Australia's lead as much as possible. For Australia, Cummins was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets for 80 runs, while Mitchell Starc claimed 3/83.
Jadeja kept India's hopes alive with a sturdy knock, sharing a crucial 53-run partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy (16), who was dismissed by Cummins in the post-lunch session, which was curtailed by a rain interruption lasting just over an hour.
