India batter Shreyas Iyer has said that the best learning he has got from seven successful months in Indian cricket is to stay in the present while admitting that all the success brings in a lot of added pressure. He added that he does not want to look too far away into the future and plan around making an India comeback, one that has eluded him for a while.
Iyer helped Mumbai win the Ranji Trophy last season, the Irani Cup after 27 years and on Sunday, December 15 he led the domestic giants to their second title in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
Iyer, who was the second costliest player in the IPL's mega auction in November at Rs 26.75 crore, spearheaded the Kolkata Knight Riders' title-winning campaign in the last edition.
“The best learning I have got from all these things is to stay in the present and enjoy the moment. Once I start to think about the future and the past, I am in a cluster," Iyer told the media during a felicitation for the team organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association.
“For me, I seek happiness when I am sitting right here talking to you. Stay in the present. (I am) certainly feeling ecstatic to have so many trophies under my belt. It gives you a lot of motivation and it is inspiring as well at the same time because I know the expectation will be higher now," Iyer added.
The Mumbai Cricket Association has said that it will match BCCI's prize money of a whopping Rs 80 lakh for its team.
“We are such a team, Mumbai, where we have built a mindset in the dressing room and on the field that no matter whatever situation we are put in, we are going to face it head-on," Iyer said.
The India batter is next expected to be seen in action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against biggies Karnataka on Saturday, December 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
