Jasprit Bumrah has been India's only consistent bowler in the ongoing series against Australia. The right-arm pacer kicked off the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a five-fer at Perth and followed up with three wickets in the second innings. Bumrah captained India from the front and led the visitors to a famous win.
The senior pacer followed up with four wickets in the second Test match in Adelaide. India lost the fixture by 10 wickets. Bumrah once against shone with the ball and took a six-fer in Australia's first innings of the ongoing Gabba Test match.
The India Test vice-captain has completed 191 wickets in Test cricket and he is on the cusp of completing the elusive 200-wicket mark. Bumrah is set to create history and he will become the quickest Indian pacer to scalp 200 wickets.
Kapil Dev presently holds the record for being the quickest Indian pacer to scalp 200 wickets. He achieved the milestone in 50 matches. Bumrah is playing his 43rd game and he has ample Tests left to break Kapil's record.
Among Indian spinners, R Ashwin holds the elusive record. The veteran bowler completed his 200th wicket in his 37th Test match. He is followed by Ravindra Jadeja (44 Tests) and Harbhajan Singh (46 Tests), respectively.
Jasprit Bumrah's Test career
After proving himself in white-ball cricket, Jasprit Bumrah was handed his maiden Test call-up for the South Africa tour in January 2018. He took up the lead role straightaway and has been leading India's bowling attack since his debut.
Bumrah's success with the bowl saw him join the leadership group in 2022 and he made his captaincy debut against England in the one-off Test. Bumrah led India in T20Is in 2023. He led India in the opening Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah can replace Rohit as India's full-time Test captain when he retires.
