India succumbed to a 10 wicket defeat against Australia in Adelaide as the five match Test series is now tied at 1-1. The second Test match also witnessed the match being halted for a brief period as the floodlights went off at the Adelaide Oval.
The incident happened during the 18th over when Harshit Rana was bowling during Australia's first inning. The match was disrupted twice as lights went off twice in the match which led to a delay in the match and later the final session had to be extended.
Nathan Lyon revealed how an internal switch confusion caused the floodlight fiasco in Adelaide. The off-spinner revealed he wanted to have a go in the nets and requested the lights in the nets to be switched on. But instead of putting on the lights in the nets the floodlights in the ground were switched off.
Lyon was asked on Seven's coverage, “It led back to me that the lights went off twice and you were the reason for that because you’re the nightwatchman and you wanted to go out and have a hit.
“So you said to the bloke, ‘Put the lights on in the nets so I can have a hit’, and he hit the wrong button twice and turned the whole ground lights off.”
Lyon didn't deny his fault and accepted the blame for the floodlight failure.
“I couldn’t believe that.
“I was actually with our assistant coach ‘Boro’, sitting out there in the dark and the security guard asked us, and we said, ‘If you could put the lights on that’d be great, I need all the help I can get’. Then next minute it went off.
“I literally said to Boro, ‘I reckon he’s hit the wrong switch’. We sat out in the dark there for about 15 minutes waiting to have a hit.
“I’ll take that one, getting blamed for someone not knowing how to turn the lights on.”
