Star Australia batter Travis Head, better known as India's nemesis for his recent exploits against the team, has said that Ravichandran Ashwin is a tougher spinner to face than Ravindra Jadeja. A bunch of Australia batters were asked to pick on the eve of the third Test as to who between Ashwin and Jadeja they find tougher to face.
Not just Head, but the majority of his batting partners picked Ashwin as the tougher spinner to face, with opener Usman Khawaja even calling Ashwin a metronome.
Notably, Ashwin has had several successful tours Down Under, although his recent tryst with the pink ball wasn't as successful.
"Probably for me, Ashwin, someone with a couple more tricks and being a lot taller and a lot quicker. Yeah, I think he's probably the hardest," Head told Cricket Australia.
"Jadeja's got a very good skill set. He's like a metronome. He just goes bang, bang, bang, time and time again. You see Ashwin's the cagiest. He's the one who's thinking out there. Every time I faced Ashwin, he's trying to think what I'm doing, I'm trying to think what he's trying to do," Khawaja said.
"I think Ashwin, he finds ways, he's ultra-competitive and gets into the contest," wicketkeeper Alex Carey said.
Ace Australia batter Steve Smith, who has fallen prey to Ashwin on numerous occasions, also named him the tougher one to face in Australia than Jadeja.
"Ashwin's got me a few times here. I don't reckon Jadeja's got me out here, but I think Ashwin, in these conditions, he's just got great skills. Changes the way he bowls from surface to surface, he bowls what's needed," Smith said.
"Ashwin's got that bounce and Jadeja's got the consistency and pace. So against me, that's probably all you need," ace Australia spinner Nathan Lyon said.
