The BCCI and PCB were at loggerheads ever since India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. The future of the tournament was up in the air as the impasse refused to end despite several meetings. However, the situation is set to be resolved finally as the tournament will be reportedly be played in the hybrid model with India playing their matches at a different venue. PCB, in return, have been assured that a women 's ICC tournament will be held there after 2027. Former Pakistan star Basit Ali, however, did not see eye to eye with PCB regarding this compromise.
In a video on his YouTube Channel, Basit Ali said that hosting a women's World Cup in 2027 or 2028 will not be beneficial for Pakistan. In fact, this is being done so that Pakistan comes to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, in exchange for the Indian women's team to travel to Pakistan when the tournament happens there.
"Now it is being said that in 2027 or 2028, a women's World Cup will be given to Pakistan. Everybody will say, 'waah ji waah! This is great, not one but two ICC events (in Pakistan)!' But what's the point of events like these? It's being done so that in 2026, the Pakistan team will travel to India and the Indian women's team will then come to Pakistan. The broadcasters won't suffer any losses," Basit Ali said.
PCB Is Being Given Lollipop
In the video, Basit Ali further stated that the ICC is giving a lollipop to the PCB that if they agree to this arrangement for the Champions Trophy, then they should not ask anything for any tournament in the future.
"Do you know what a lollipop is? This is a lollipop the ICC is giving to the PCB...that if you agree to this, don't ask for anything in writing and we will give you another ICC event. This won't be of any benefit (to Pakistan). They should rather bid for the Asia Cup, which is next year. The PCB should ask for this. The PCB won't benefit by hosting the Women's World Cup or U-19 World Cup. If the PCB accepts this lollipop, they'll be the losers," Ali concluded.
