India are currently taking on Australia in the third Test of the five-match series for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India began the series on a strong note as they won the first match at Perth by 205 runs. However, Australia came back strongly, as they defeated the visitors by a comprehensive margin of 10 wickets in the second Test in Adelaide. A lot will depend on the result of the third Test in order for India to stay in the race to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship 2025.
India are currently third behind Australia and South Africa in the WTC table with a PCT of 57.29. Hence, to have the best chance of qualifying for the WTC 2025 Final, India need to win or draw the Brisbane Test Match vs Australia. They will also have an outside chance if they lose, but they will have to depend on other teams like Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
What Happens If India Win Or Draw Brisbane Test?
India need to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a margin of at least 3-1 to qualify for the WTC 2025 final.
Hence, India will have a better chance of qualifying if they win or draw the third Test vs Australia. If they win, the series will go 2-1, and then India will need to win just one of their remaining two matches in the series to automatically qualify for the WTC 2025 final.
If India draw the third Test vs Australia at Brisbane, then they need to win their remaining two Test Matches to qualify for the WTC 2025 final automatically.

What Happens If India Lose 3rd Test Vs Australia?
India will still have an outside chance to qualify if they lose the third Test vs Australia. If India win the remaining two games of the series after losing the third Test, then they would win the series by 3-2. In that case, they would need Sri Lanka to beat Australia in at least one of the two Test matches of the series in the island nation in late January-early February.
If India win one of the two remaining Tests and draw another after losing the ongoing Test match vs Australia, then the series would end level at 2-2. They would then hope that Sri Lanka defeat Australia in one of the two Tests, and Pakistan defeat South Africa in both Test matches in the Rainbow Nation later this month.
