Mohammed Siraj Heavily Booed By Australian Fans At GABBA, Sunil Gavaskar Fumes: 'Do Mongrels Bark Too?' (Source: AP)
Mohammed Siraj was heavily booed by the Australian fans at the GABBA during the first session of the third Test. Siraj paid the price for giving Travis Head a fiery send-off in the second Test. Head scored a brutal 140 in the second innings at Adelaide and batted India out of the Test. When Siraj got the wicket of the Aussie batter, things took an ugly turn as the two cricketers got involved in a heated exchange.
Head and Siraj later came up with different versions of the story. The Australian batter said he praised Siraj for the delivery but he misunderstood it while Siraj refuted the claim and said Head abused him initially, triggering the reaction, and then lied in the media. The players though quickly patched up after the match. However, it seems the Australian fans are not in the mood to let go of Siraj that easily.

This was not the first time Siraj was on the radar of the Australian fans. The Indian pacer was heavily booed in the Adelaide Test as well following the altercation with Head. Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar wasn't impressed with the crowd's behaviour and didn't mince words to highlight the crowd's hypocrisy.
"Siraj is getting the stick from all the “saints” in Australian cricket who, of course, were known for their impeccable behaviour on the field. It may have incensed Australian fans that Siraj’s fiery send-off was directed at Head, who scored a magnificent century and was also the local boy," wrote Gavaskar in a column for Sydney Morning Herald.
"But the same people will cheer if an Aussie quick gives a similar send-off to an English batter during next summer’s Ashes. There were some suggestions in the media that the Australians should get back to being the mongrels they once were. So, do mongrels simply purr, or do they bark, too," he added.
