In a selection call that exhibits the reason behind the on-field struggle of the Indian women's cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee, led by Neetu David, left fans in shock after naming the squad to face West Indies in an ODI and T20I series at home.
Just 48 hours after rattling the Australian cricket team's top order in the third ODI at Perth with a stunning spell of 4/26, which saw her take the first four wickets and reduce Australia to 78/4, Arundhati Reddy was dropped from the squad in both formats.
Reddy was also India's joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup with seven wickets in four matches. She has taken eight wickets in five ODIs in 2024, which is the most by an Indian pacer this year.
Star opener Shafali Verma remained exile from the ODI team after being left out for the tour of Australia. She has alo been dropped from the T20I team
Meanwhile, Pooja Vastrakar, Shreyanka Patil, Asha Joy, and Yastika Bhatia missed out due to injuries. Pratika Rawal and Tanuja Kanwer recieved their maiden call-up to the national team.
After it was confirmed that Reddy is not dealing with an injury, India fans voiced their anger over the decision.
West Indies' tour of India will start with three T20Is at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on December 15, 17, and 19. The teams will then move to Vadodara's Kotambi Stadium where the two teams will play three ODIs on December 22, 24, and 27.
