Vaibhav Suryavanshi hogged the limelight when Rajasthan Royals picked him at the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 13 year old was acquired by the Rahul Dravid-led franchise for 1.10 crore.
Suryavanshi became the youngest player ever to be bought by an IPL team at the auction and will be seen donning the Rajasthan colours next season. There have been very high hopes for him and his recent showing in the U19 Asia Cup has certainly been a high point in his brief career.
He played two mega innings against Sri Lanka and UAE in the U-19 Asia Cap but failed to deliver in the final against Bangladesh. But despite making it to the IPL, the youngster revealed his dream not to play in the cash-rich league but to be coached by Dravid.
Dravid guided India to the ICC T20 World Cup title and later he was given the charge of the Royals to guide the IPL side all the way to glory. Vaibhav told PTI videos, "I am really glad that I am getting a chance to play in the IPL. I am excited to play under Rahul Dravid sir, more than playing in the IPL, I am happy to play under him.
“I have no strategy as such for the IPL, I will just play the way I do."
India faltered at the last hurdle as they couldn’t chase Bangladesh’s 199 and were bowled out for 139. Defending his teammates, Vaibhav insisted that such a day could have happened to any team in the world.
"I wouldn't say that we didn't do well in the tournament, there are days when the team batting faces a collapse. That's what happened in the final with us.
"We are determined to do better in future tournaments."
