India and Australia will head to Gabba, Brisbane with the series tied at 1-1. India started the series with a scintillating 295-run win at Perth and Australia bounced back strong with a crushing 10-wicket victory. Gabba is Australia's fortress but India defeated them when the two teams last met at the venue.
The match is very important in the context of the series, but even more in terms of the World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification. The defeat in the second Test meant that India slipped to third in the WTC table.
How Can India Top WTC Table
For India to top the WTC table, they will have to beat Australia in the remaining three Tests and win the series 4-1. If they manage to do so, they will reach a PCT of 64.04 PCT% and Australia won't be able to finish with more than 55.26 PCT%. India's only challenge will be South Africa, who will play Pakistan in a two-match series. If Pakistan manage to win a Test in two games, South Africa will end the WTC 2023-25 cycle with 61.11 PCT%, which will help India secure a top position. If the series ends with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of South Africa, they can’t finish with more than 63.89 PCT% and India will secure a top position. South Africa can only pip India in the table if they beat Pakistan 2-0.
India can also qualify if they win the series 3-1, but Australia and South Africa can surpass them in the table and knock India out. In case of a 3-2 win, India would need Sri Lanka to draw at least a Test against Australia in the Test series at home. If the series ends as 2-2 draw, India will need Sri Lanka to beat Australia 2-0.
