Jaspeit Bumrah has been India's biggest bet against Australia in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian vice captain's show with the ball is pretty much evident in the two Test matches as he is currently the highest wicket taker in the series with 12 scalps.
But there have been concerns over Bumrah's fitness. The 31 year old received medical assistance on the field in Adelaide during Australia's first innings and his bowling speed was subsequently reduced raising a serious question over his availability for the next Test in Brisbane.
Bumrah has led the challenge on Australian soil and his absence could be a huge blow to India's World Test Championship dreams. They are still clinging to the hope that a favourable result in the BGT would help them secure a place in the WTC final for the third consecutive time.
Former cricketer Isa Guha feels if Bumrah fails to make it to the starting lineup in the next Test, it will pose a big threat to the visitors.
In an interaction with Fox Sports she said, “For India, I don’t think they’re going to be too concerned about what happened in Adelaide ... they’ll enjoy going to the Gabba and playing in those conditions,” Guha said.
“The only concern they might have, is around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and what that does to the bowling attack ... that’s where the main challenge lies for India.”
Bumrah also didn't take part in the practice on Tuesday, and he was seen spending time with India’s strength and conditioning coach which further has sparked a debate regarding his fitness.
Mohammed Siraj has had his moments but he has not been consistent while Harshit Wana gave away 86 runs without picking up a single wicket in Adelaide.
