The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy ended in a disappointing manner for Bengal as they lost to Baroda by 41 runs in the quarterfinal. All eyes were on Mohammed Shami who didn't have the desired outcome as he gave away 43 runs in his designated four overs in the match.
Despite Bengal's defeat in the domestic T20 competition, Shami has added a new feather to his cap. The fast bowler has now recorded 200 wickets in the T20 cricket and in the proceedings, he has become the 34th player to achieve a rare treble. He now has 200 wickets each in T20 cricket, List A cricket and first class cricket, a very unique feat in cricket history.
Only a few people in the world have achieved this and from India, only Jasprit Bumrah and Bhubneshwar Kumar are the two pacers on the list. Shami is touted to join the Indian squad in Australia but there have been reports that the 34 year old underwent fresh fitness tests which didn't show encouraging signs for the fast bowler.

He hasn't played for India since the ICC 2023 ODI World Cup final and underwent an ankle surgery subsequently. He has been playing for Bengal in a hid to prove his fitness but that hasn't been the case so far.
Rohit Sharma was recently quizzed about Shami's inclusion in the squad and the Indian captain didn't sound positive.
"We want to be more than 100% sure with him because it has been a long time. We don't want to put pressure on him to come here and do the job for the team. There are some professionals monitoring, we will take a call based on what those guys feel. They are the ones watching him every game, how he pulls up after the game, after bowling four overs, standing for 20 overs. But the door is open for him to come and play anytime.”
