'He Could Get Injured': Former India Cricketer Warns Rohit Sharma Over Jasprit Bumrah's Workload

Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has said that while it is fine to lose one Test and there is no need for an uprising over it, skipper Rohit Sharma will need to be careful with ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah since he is India's best strike bowler at the moment. Ever since Bumrah went down clutching his inner thigh during the second Test in Adelaide, thoughts over his workload have increased.
Kaif believes that Rohit cannot give long spells to Bumrah as he is India's "only bowler". Notably, the latter hasn't received enough support from Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana, raising concerns over his workload.
Kaif said that if Bumrah breaks down, India would have no chance at all in the five-Test series which is locked at 1-all.
"No need to panic that much, it's just 1-1. It's alright we've lost one Test, there is no need to behave like all is lost. The plannings need to be better; tactical moves need to come into play. Rohit was not up to the mark as captain," Kaif said while speaking on a video posted on his 'X' handle.
"And of course, Jasprit Bumrah. You can't give long spells to Bumrah. He's the only bowler. I have never seen a team that depends on only one player. Ashwin is not playing, Jadeja is not playing. If Bumrah gets injured, you forget about the series," Kaif added.
Bumrah's spell with the new ball on the first Test of the Perth Test after India were bowled out for a paltry 150 was seen as one of the best in recent times. It was because of him that India smoothly sailed to a massive 295-run win over Australia in the Perth Test.
The key Indian pace duo of Bumrah and Siraj besides seam-bowling allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy looked to have a lean day on Tuesday, as they didn't turn up for the optional practice sessions.
