Virat Kohli’s poor run of form has been a major concern for the Indian team. The 36 year old has endured an underwhelming run in the long format off late.
Despite scoring his 30th Test century in Perth against Australia, he failed to carry his form to Adelaide where India faced a crushing defeat. He returned with figures of 7 and 11 at the Adelaide Oval as his lean form came to haunt him again.
His century in Perth was his first Test century in the last 16 months, which evidently showed his struggle in the red ball cricket. Despite being regarded as one of the best in the world cricket, Kohli has fallen much behind in the pecking order among the fab four.
Since 2020 he has only recorded 3 centuries and nine half centuries and his Test credentials have been questioned several times.
West Indies legend Andy Roberts pointed out the loopholes in Virat’s game insisting the batter needs to focus on his game in Test cricket.
In an interaction with Mid-day he said, "I don’t know if there will be a revival after the Adelaide defeat, but get your batting right. One of your best batsmen of all-time has been struggling for the last five years.
“He needs to be focused on the longer version of the game. You will get runs and score heavily in Test cricket only when you are fully focused on the longer form. The standard of Test cricket is not the same. The top batsmen look as if they are struggling.”
Virat will keep his place in the starting XI when India take on Australia in the third Test at the Gabba In Brisbane starting on December 14. The visitors need to win all the remainibg Test matches to have any chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship final.
