Mohammed Siraj was punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the code of conduct during the second Test match between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval for an ugly spat with Travis Head. Siraj was found in breach of article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to 'using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.'
For those unversed, Siraj dismissed Head after the Australian star made a stunning knock of 140 in 141 balls in the first innings. The Indian pacer gave the Australian vice-captain a send-off which triggered a war of words betweeen the duo.
The ICC gave Siraj a heavy punishment as he was fined 20% of his match fees and given one demerit point.
On the other hand, Head was found guilty of article 21.3 (abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match). The 32-year-old was not fined but given one demerit point.
Siraj reacted to ICC's decision with a five-word reply and made no complaints about the decision. "Yeah man, it's all good," said Siraj to the Sydney Morning Herald. Asked if he was upset with the world cricket governing body, the Indian pacer played down the issue. “I am going to the gym now," Siraj said.
The same publication reported that both Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah did not take part in India's training session at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday (December 10) which should have been the fifth day of the second Test.
The pink-ball Test ended in the second session of the third day as Australia stormed to a 10-wicket win and leveled the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-1.
The third Test will take place at the Gabba, Brisbane from Saturday (December 14).
