While Jasprit Bumrah has carried India's bowling unit on his back so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), a doubt has been raised on his fitness for the third Test at the Gabba, Brisbane scheduled to start on Saturday (December 14).
During the first innings of play in the second Test at Adelaide, Bumrah gave India a major scare as he went down mid-over a physio was immediately called to attend him. After lenghty treatement, the 31-year-old continued bowling. The star pacer also bowled the first over in Australia's fourth-innings run-chase of 19 runs.
However, Bumrah did not bowl at full tilt and his speeds were down from his normal pace. On Tuesday (December 10),Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj skipped India's practice session in Adelaide ahead of the team travelling to Brisbane.
This has led to ex-Australian cricketer Damien Fleming to suggest that Bumrah is dealing with an injury and refused to believe that the problems he faced were cramps. Fleming was also bemused with Rohit Sharma's decision to give Bumrah an over in the fourth innings and claimed they missed a chance to hide the World No.1 Test bowler's injury.
“There’s got to be some serious doubts. Siraj might be workload [related] but I’m bemused Bumrah bowled that over. They could have hid this. They showed their hand. There’s no way that’s cramp. He was very ginger after the break in the first innings. He bowled again, not quite as slow second innings. I don’t even know why he bowled that over [in the second innings]. That actually gave some secrets away to everyone," said Fleming on SEN RADIO.
Bumrah was the Player of the Match (POTM) in the first Test as he took eight wickets in the match (including a five-wicket haul in the first innings) which helped India seal a 295-run victory under his own captaincy. Bumrah took four wickets in the first innings of the Adelaide Test too.
