A day after the end of the Adelaide Test match, the ICC punished Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head. The duo were involved in an on-field confrontation during Australia's first innings. Tempers flared after Siraj dismissed Head for 140 and gave him a fiery send-off. Head also gave it back to Siraj before walking back.
Siraj has been fined 20 percent of his match fees. "Siraj has been penalised 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal," ICC wrote in its release. One demerit point has also been added to his account.
The apex board hasn't fined Head but one demerit point has been added to his account as well. Both the players accepted their offences after the game, the ICC said.
Travis Head lied after day 2
Travis Head exposed himself after the end of the Test match by admitting that he abused Siraj. After day 2, the Australia vice-captain claimed that he said "well bowled" to the India pacer but he changed his statement after the game.
"Sweet with it. He came out and just said [it was] a little bit of misunderstanding ... I think we'll move on. We've had a great week, so let's not let it ruin it. It was fine. He said, 'Why'd you swear?' I sort of said, 'Look, I didn't at first ... [but] I definitely swore at you the second time round,'" Head said.
Siraj and Head shared a hug after the game. The left-handed batsman scored a brilliant 140 off just 141 balls as Australia scored 337 in their first innings. They chased down the target of 19 with ease to level the series 1-1. Brisbane will host the 3rd Test match from December 14 to 18.
