The ICC Champions Trophy conundrum is far from over. BCCI has already rejected the proposal to travel to Pakistan to take part in the ICC event next year.
BCCI's denial has left the tournament on the brink as the official schedule is yet to be released with the tournament only a couple of months away. Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier planned to launch the tournament on February 19 but the latest developments have raised massive questions over the future of the tournament.
A hybrid model has reportedly been accepted by both the PCB and BCCI and it also been agreed that all tournaments played in India will have a hybrid model in place. An ICC source told PTI, "It's been agreed in principle by all parties that the 2025 Champions Trophy will be held in the UAE and Pakistan, with India playing its matches in Dubai. It's a win-win situation for all stakeholders.”
Amid all the topsy-turvy situation, the latest ICC Champions Trophy promo has been released by the official broadcasters. Despite the absence of an official schedule, the promo has some of the prominent names of world cricket, such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc.
The official promo doesn't mention the host's name which could further establish the fact the Champions Trophy will be conducted in a hybrid model and India could play in Dubai as per the reports.
PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi had earlier stated that he would do everything to get the best possible outcome for cricket.
"Cricket should win, that's most important, but with respect for all. We are going to do what's best for cricket. Whichever formula we go for, it would be on equal terms.”
