Joe Root will take the field for the final time in the ongoing season when England face New Zealand in the third and final Test of the series in Hamilton. Root, who has broken several records in the past few years, is on the cusp of a world record and he can break Jacques Kallis' record in the third Test.
With 12886 runs in 151 Tests, Root is presently the fifth-highest run-scorer. He is just 114 runs away from the 13000-run mark and can become the quickest batsman to breach this elusive milestone.
In terms of matches, Jacques Kallis presently holds the record for scoring the quickest 13000 runs. He breached the mark in 159 matches. He is followed by Rahul Dravid, who took 160 matches to score 13000 Test runs.
Ricky Ponting sits at the third spot. The former Australia captain completed 13000 Test runs in 162 matches. Sachin Tendulkar sits at the fourth spot. The Master Blaster completed 13000 Test runs in 163 matches. But Sachin took the least innings to complete 13000 runs. He breached the mark in 266 innings.
As for Joe Root, he has scored 12886 runs in 151 Test matches. The former England captain has scored 36 tons and 64 half-centuries. Root is on the course to breaking Sachin's record of most runs in Test cricket. The Indian legend finished his career with 15921 runs in 200 Tests.
England aim for whitewash
Talking of the ongoing series, England have won both Tests and already clinched the series. The visiting team won the first Test match by a big 8-wicket margin. The Ben Stokes-led side continued its dominance in the 2nd Test and won the fixture by 323 runs. The third and final Test of the series will be played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton from December 14 to 18.
