Ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that during his initial days, very few people believed in him due to his unique bowling action which they thought wouldn't last for long and didn't work on him enough, so he taught himself most skills. He added that he has been self-reliant since the early part of his career and found solutions to any problems by himself.
Bumrah burst onto the scene eight years back and made his Test debut two years later. Since 2018, ever since he travelled to Australia and pulled off some magic, has become a vital cog in India's wheels not just in Tests but across formats.
Bumrah said that not many people provided him with inputs on how to improve but didn't find any merit in his skills. He added that self-reliance thus worked in his favour, and the result is there for the world to see.
"I don’t think a lot of people believed in me because they thought that this bowling action wouldn't last for long. He’ll play for six months, seven months. So not a lot of people worked on me or, you know, gave me inputs that, you know, I think this is useful or you should stop doing that because I don’t think they saw a lot of merits," Bumrah said while speaking to Fox Cricket.
"So yes, nobody tried to change me, but nobody gave any extra solutions. So that worked out for the best in the greater interest, but then that helped me develop, you know, relying on yourself and having self-belief. So I think that worked out brilliantly for me," Bumrah added.
As he has said quite a few times before in interviews, the ace India pacer said that he did not receive any formal training and brushed up all his skills by just watching cricket.
