'Just Not Ideal Preparation': Sanjay Manjrekar Hits Out At Rohit Sharma Over Double Failure In Adelaide

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that Rohit Sharma's body language while batting in the Adelaide Test showed a complete lack of confidence and just playing a few deliveries in a warm-up game is not the ideal preparation for a high-stakes game against Australia. He added that Rohit has some serious problems with his defence, the reason for his early dismissals.
Having missed the Perth Test because of personal reasons, Rohit returned to lead India in the ongoing Test in Adelaide. But he was dismissed for single-digit scores in both innings and has drawn some criticism.
Manjrekar said that Rohit's body language was not great during his short stay and added that his unimpressive innings showed his lack of preparation for the Test.
“The way he looked as well when he was batting out there, the body language just showed a complete lack of confidence. For somebody who is struggling for runs coming a few days before the Test and having a quarter of a warm-up game is just not ideal preparation," Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
“There is more to it because even in India, on those kinds of pitches, people like Matt Henry were troubling him. There was one innings where there was a review that saved him, but soon after, he was out with the ball going through his defence in the very same way, when he took a small step forward and the bat was just dangling there, hoping that the ball comes and hits it," Manjrekar added.
Meanwhile, Australia tightened their grip on the pink ball Test as their formidable pacers scythed through India's top-order after nemesis Travis Head's counterattacking hundred handed his side a substantial first-innings lead on a riveting second day in Adelaide.
At the end of the day's play, India were at 128/5, with Nitish Reddy batting on 15 and Rishabh Pant on 28. They trail by 29 runs.
