Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has said that Rohit Sharma's feet are not moving as they should and he needs to do a little bit of exercise before coming to the crease. Rohit, who has been in poor form in Tests over the past few months, once again couldn't make an impact with the bat on Day 2 as India's woes with the bat continued.
Rohit was dismissed for just six runs, after a disappointing performance in the first innings, where he scored just three runs. While Sanjay Manjrekar said that he had come into the Test with insufficient preparation, Gavaskar pointed out his erroneous foot movement.
The former Indian cricketer shared his insights into what might be going wrong with Rohit's footwork and how it is affecting his batting.
"I think the feet aren't moving as they should. He needs to do a little bit of exercise before coming to the crease and try to get some circulation going in the legs," Gavaskar said while speaking on Star Sports.
"He has always been a slow starter as far as foot movement is concerned. It's not just a recent problem. The older you get, the more pronounced it becomes," Gavaskar added.
The former Indian cricketer suggested that when Rohit comes into bat, he should run in a little bit so that the blood circulation eases out. Gavaskar said that Rohit should do some jogging before facing the first ball.
Meanwhile, Australia tightened their grip on the pink ball Test as their formidable pacers scythed through India's top-order after nemesis Travis Head's counterattacking hundred handed his side a substantial first-innings lead on a riveting second day in Adelaide.
The Adelaide Oval was throbbing with life through the three sessions of play as Head dominated India with his wide range of strokes on the way to 140 off 141 deliveries before the trio of Scott Boland (2/39), Mitchell Starc (1/49) and Pat Cummins (2/33) left the visitors in a spot of bother at 128/5 in their second innings and trailing by 29 runs.
