Shreyas Iyer is celebrating his 30th birthday on Friday (December 6). The right-handed batsman is receiving wishes from his teammates and other celebrities on social media. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also sent a special wish to Iyer and shared a couple of posts for him. They posted Iyer's photo with a birthday wish. Later, they posted a video for Iyer's birthday.
Iyer was with KKR from IPL 2022 to 2024. The 30-year-old joined KKR for Rs 12.25 crore in the IPL 2022 mega-auction and took over as the captain. KKR failed to make it to the second round of IPL 2022. Iyer missed IPL 2023 due to an injury.
Back as captain in IPL 2024, Iyer led KKR to their third IPL title win. Iyer-led KKR dominated the proceedings in the league stage and finished at the top spot. They also became the first team to make it to the final.
KKR and Iyer couldn't agree to a deal before IPL 2025 and the player entered the mega-auction. KKR tried to re-sign their former captain in the mega-auction but missed out. Iyer shattered records in the mega-auction and joined Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 26.75 crore. Rishabh Pant, who joined Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore, was the costliest pick of the auction.
PBKS haven't confirmed their captain yet but Iyer looks set to take over the job. At PBKS, Iyer will work with head coach Ricky Ponting. They worked together at Delhi Capitals (DC) from IPL 2018 to 2021.
Iyer-led DC made it to the playoffs of IPL 2019. They played their first IPL final under Iyer in 2020. Iyer left DC after IPL 2021 while Ponting coached the franchise till IPL 2024.
The Australian legend will have his task cut out at PBKS as they have only played one IPL final so far. PBKS have only cleared the league stage twice in 17 years.
