Mumbai Indians set to welcome new bowling coach
MI look to welcome former Indian bowling coach into their set-up
MI finished bottom in IPL 2024, will look to bounce back in IPL 2025
Ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 season, Mumbai Indians are set to make a big announcement. The five-time IPL champions are likely to appoint one of Rahul Dravid's coaching staff as their new bowling coach. Dravid and his support staff played a key role in India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in June.
Ahead of what will be a crucial season for MI after they finished bottom in the IPL 2024 standings, the Mumbai Indians are set to join hands with former India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, according to Times of India.
For the unversed, Mhambrey was part of MI's setup from the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. Later he coached the India U-19 team and spent nearly three years as the bowling coach of the senior national team.
During Paras Mhambrey's tenure as bowling coach, India reached the World Test Championship (WTC) final in 2023, along with the ODI World Cup final, although they lost both matches to Australia. The bowling performances from the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, and others have been particularly impressive, earning Mhambrey plenty of admirers.
While Dravid joined Rajasthan Royals following the end of his stint as India coach, he will be reunited with ex-India batting coach Vikram Rathour, who has also joined hands with the inaugural IPL champions.
Mhambrey meanwhile was available and Mumbai Indians have stolen the march to secure the 52-year-old's signature. While the official announcement regarding Paras Mhambrey's appointment hasn't been made yet, the same could be confirmed before the IPL 2025 mega auction in November.
Currently, Mumbai Indians have former legend Lasith Malinga and former India pacer TA Sekar as their bowling coaches.
