A homicide investigation has been lauched after a man arrived at a South Auckland medical centre this afternoon with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
According to Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Hassall, the man arrived at a Clendon Park medical centre in a critical condition.
"At this point, we believe he has sustained gunshot injuries at another location," he said.
The man was taken to Middlemore Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.
Hassall said police were making inquiries at a nearby Wattle Downs address as part of the investigation.
"We are speaking with a number of individuals as part of those inquiries to understand what has taken place this afternoon," he said.
So far, there have been no arrests.
The Clendon Medical Centre was taped off earlier today and armed police officers could be seen standing guard.
Black tarpaulins had been erected outside the centre, while police and St John vehicles were parked nearby.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident at 2.51pm today, and responded with one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one operations manager.
Hassall said a scene examination would take place in "due course", along with a post-mortem.
"The community can expect there to be an increased Police presence in the area over the coming days."
