It was a day to cherish for the India T20I team as the Men in Blue thrash Bangladesh by a massive 133 runs to complete the clean sweep in the 3-match series on Saturday, 12th October at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. It was Sanju Samson, who stole the show with his breath-taking innings of 111 off 47 deliveries, making him the 2nd fastest Indian to notch up a hundred.
With that being said, Samson's innings propelled the home side to a mammoth 297/6, which is the 2nd highest-ever T20I team total in history and India's highest in the format.
India broke multiple records and even captain Suryakumar Yadav also achieved a milestone of his own during the match. He supported Samson with an equally brilliant 35-ball 75 knock, which made him the 2nd fastest Indian to 2500 runs in the shortest format of the game. Yadav did it in 71 innings as he went past Rohit Sharma, who actually achieved it in 92 innings. In this regard, former captain Virat Kohli is the fastest Indian to 2500 runs. He achieved it in 68 innings back in 2019 against the West Indies.
With the latest victory, Surya has now picked up 6 consecutive wins since becoming full-time T20I skipper.
Speaking of the match, SKY and Sanju notched up a mammoth partnership of 173 runs. Other notable contributors were Riyan Parag with his 13-ball 34, followed by Hardik Pandya's quick-fire 18-ball 47 as the Bangladesh bowlers proved to be expensive.
During the run-chase, Litton Das (42) and Towhid Hridoy 63(42) ignited hopes but just like the India batters, the bowlers were too good for them.
Ravi Bishnoi finished with figures 3-40 with Mayank Yadav also picking up 2 wickets. The most economical bowler was Varun Chakravarthy, who ended the innings, conceding just 23 runs from his 4-over spell.
India will now shift their focus to the upcoming 3-match Test series against New Zealand at home. The 1st Test will commence from 16th October at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
