Ivory Coast have made the wrong kind of cricketing history, recording the lowest Twenty20 international score in a World Cup qualifying match against Nigeria.

Seven... yes, you read that correctly.

Electing to bat first, Nigeria put on 271/4 in their allotted overs, with Selim Salau hitting a 53-ball 112, before retiring. Sulaimon Runsewe (50 in 29 balls) and Isaac Okpe (65 not in 23) added half-centuries to boost the scoreline.

Suffice to say, their rivals were never in the chase, losing topscorer Ouattara Mohamed (4) on the sixth ball. No-one else could break past a single in an innings that featured seven ducks. Mimi Alex stuck around longest for eight balls, but the entire team were bundled out in the eighth over.

Isaac Danladi and Prosper Useni took three wickets each for Nigeria.

Ivory Coast captain Dosso Issiaka suffered worse than most, blocking a straightforward delivery from Danladi, but wandering out of his crease and failing to beat the return throw. He now holds the record for most ducks (2) by Ivory Coast in T20 internationals play.

Most of his teammates equalled the previous record.

The previous record low was held by Mongolia and Isle of Man, who managed just 10 against Singapore and Spain respectively.

The 264-run margin of defeat is the third-highest in T20i history, behind Zimbabwe's 290-run triumph over Gambia last month.

Ivory Coast had previously scored just 21 runs in a 168-run loss to Sierra Leone last week.
