With the retention window for the franchises set to close on October 31, we may find out sooner rather than later the list of players who have been retained and released by the franchise. There have been strong rumpurs since IPL 2024 that Rohit Sharma has been discontent at Mumbai Indians after Hardik Pandya was handed over the captaincy. Hence, there are chances that he might leave the auction as well. Harbhajan Singh has made a big prediction for the former MI captain.

In an interaction with The Times of India, former Mumbai Indians star Harbhajan Singh said that it would be interesting to see if Rohit Sharma indeed is released, and which teams would bid for him if he does go into the auction. He said that Rohit Sharma is amazing as a player and as a captain. He has a lot of cricket left in him even though he is 37 years old.
"It will be interesting to see whether he will be retained or not. If he goes into the auction pool, it will be fascinating to see which team bids for him. I’m sure many teams must be thinking along those lines," Harbajan said,
"Rohit Sharma, as a leader and a player, is amazing. He’s a top-quality player, top-quality captain and leader. He is a proven match-winner. Even at 37, he still has a lot of cricket left in him. If Rohit enters the auction, he will fetch big bucks. It will be exciting to see the auction unfold," the former off-spinner added.

What Would Be Rohit Sharma's Salary If He Is Retained By Mumbai Indians?
According to BCCI's rules for the IPL 2025 retention, Rohit Sharma would fetch Rs 18 crore if he is the first retention. He will receive Rs 14 crore and 11 crorere respectively if he is retained as the second or third choice retention. The slasry will once against increase to Rs 18 crore if he is the fourth retention. He could also be picked up in the auction by MI by using an RTM card.
