KEY HIGHLIGHTS

- Varun took five wickets and conceded just 17 runs
- India lost the second T20I by three wickets
Varun Chakravarthy continued his incredible comeback to the Indian team during the 2nd T20I between India and South Africa at St. George's Park in Gqeberha on Sunday (November 10) as he spun a web around the South African batting unit.
After losing the toss and posting a total of just 124 on the board, the Indian team had their backs against the wall before Varun turned the game in the Suryakumar Yadav-led team's favour. Varun took five wickets while giving away just 17 runs in his four-over spell.
The 33-year-old took the wickets of five of South Africa's top seven with the dismissals of Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, and David Miller. However, his heroics went in vain as Tristan Stubbs and Gerald Coetzee's lower-order brilliance ensured a three-wicket victory for the hosts to level the series 1-1.
Varun Chakravarthy Creates History
Through his incredible display against the Proteas, Varun wrote his name in the history books and became the oldest Indian to take a five-wicket haul in T20Is. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star is only the fifth Indian to achieve the milestone after Yuzvendra Chahal, Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav (twice) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (twice).
Varun is the first to achieve the feat after his 33rd birthday breaking Bhuvneshwar Kumar's record while also becoming the first spinner to achieve the feat after his 30th birthday. He is also the first Indian to register the milestone in losing cause.

Varun made his debut against Sri Lanka in 2021 in a year that saw him play six T20Is including three at the 2021 T20 World Cup. After just two wickets and India's horrific campaign in the mega event, the star spinner was dropped from the team.
Despite being a consistent force for KKR in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Varun had to wait three years for a comeback which came against Bangladesh last month. Since his return to the fold, he has taken 13 wickets in just five games.
