Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has said that Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins deserves a lot of credit for the backing the franchise provided to youngsters Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Reddy, both of whom have had blistering entries into international cricket. The former cricketer was full of praise for the Indian youngsters.
With the victory over Bangladesh on Wednesday, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Rookie allrounder Reddy was the star of the match, scoring a 34-ball 74 besides picking two wickets in his four overs.
Although Abhishek could manage just 15 runs in 11 deliveries, he went on to pick one wicket in his two overs. Basit Ali gave a special mention to Cummins for Reddy and Abhishek's rise.
"A special mention to Pat Cummins. It would be unfair if I didn't take his name. The way he has supported Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the IPL, we must address that," Basit Ali said while speaking on his official YouTube channel.
The 21-year-old Reddy (74 off 34 balls) played the most attractive knock of his nascent career while taking two wickets (2/23) with his seam bowling.
Reddy combined with Rinku Singh (53 off 29), who sizzled with a blistering half-century as well, to help India post a whopping 221/9 after being asked to bat.
Aside from a wobble with the bat by the third over of the innings, the Indians appeared in control, dominating Bangladesh throughout the game. Their bowlers were on target and India executed some brilliant catches to restrict Bangladesh to a paltry 135/9.
Reddy and Rinku put up an important and match-winning 108-run partnership for the fourth wicket and pulled India out of a precarious situation (41/3).
Reddy looked in sublime touch as he blasted the Bangladesh attack to hit seven sixes and four fours in just 34 deliveries.
India play Bangladesh in the third T20I on Saturday, October 12 in Hyderabad, at Reddy's home ground.
